Inspired by Derek Sivers, this page includes a sample of what I’m thinking about and working on right now. Last updated May 10, 2025.

I haven’t updated my /now page in a while, mostly because it always seems like I’m waiting for something to settle before committing to writing any kind of narrative about it. These days, I’m tempted to believe several aspects of life may stay unsettled for a while.
We’ve been on tinter hooks with the rumors around defunding of Head Start, worried about my wife’s employment and of course, all the folks of modest means who rely on the program to provide early education for their children. Thank God that it looks like funding will be secure for another year. However, many of the programs that families who need Head Start rely on are still in danger of getting cut. To call this a war on poor people may seem hyberbolic, but it is certainly true in many respects. Things are not all bad, though. I spoke with the coordinator at our local food bank during a volunteer event this week and learned that they have had a steady stream of goods from their corporate and agricultural suppliers.
My eldest just got done with his first year of college and has a stellar academic track record, up to this point. This past week he interviewed for a position tutoring student athletes, which would be perfect because he’s strong in various subjects and loves sports. My youngest is navigating the treacherous world of Minecraft mods for his self-hosted server and learning Python from a Udemy course in his spare time.
I’ve got a lot of work to do on my deck (which I will be engaging in today) to get it ready for the outdoor weather. Pollen season has been incredibly intense this year, and I’ve had to delay scrubbing things down until the deluge stops. Once I can read out on the deck under the glow of the string lights, I will be content.

I’m making progress on the former. I’ve downloaded the latter from Standard Ebooks, but have yet to mount the challenge of (virtually) opening it.
I hope everyone is having a wondeful spring. Thanks as always for reading Mine In Mono.
He is risen!
